Can i put a small plastick christmas tree in my fish tank?

Hi i want to decorate the fish tank for Christmas and i just wanted to to know if i could put a plastic Christmas tree in there. i wanted to know if i could to tis w/o hurting water of fish. Could i decrease those chances maybe by soaking the tree in water before puting it in?
