Imho, they're trying to get attention. After 9/11 Osama bin Laden made a video and explained precisely why the WTC was attacked. As I recall it mostly had to do with the U.S. military's occupation of Saudi Arabia during the first Gulf War and, more generally the corporate exploitation of the Middle East by the West, especially the U.S. Of course, Bush byped that message and substituted one of his own.
