What guitar should i get?

I've been playing for around a year and have gotten pretty good so my parents have decided to buy me a nicer guitar(the one i have now is just a cheap knockoff of a strat). Basically theres a $1200 budget. Ive looked at paul reed smiths, hamers, strats, and steinbergs. any opinions?
